Faculty of Computing Hosts 2026 Computing Week to Drive Local Innovation and Sustainable Research. The Faculty of Computing, Federal University of Lafia, held its 2026 Computing Week from 22nd to 26th June 2026, under the theme “Computing for Development: Driving Local Innovations and Sustainable Research Ecosystems.” The week-long programme brought together students, lecturers, technology enthusiasts, and other members of the computing community for a series of activities focused on developing practical skills, encouraging innovation, and strengthening the culture of research and problem-solving within the Faculty. The programme featured a range of workshops, training sessions, seminars, and interactive learning activities, providing students with opportunities to expand their knowledge beyond the traditional classroom environment and engage with practical applications of computing. A major highlight of the Computing Week was a hackathon sponsored by Hankali Academy, which challenged participating students to apply their technical knowledge and creativity to develop innovative solutions to real-world problems. The hackathon provided a platform for students to demonstrate their problem-solving abilities, collaborate with peers, and translate ideas into practical technological solutions. At the conclusion of the competition, the winning team was awarded a cash prize of ₦250,000, recognising their outstanding performance and innovative approach. The Faculty’s choice of theme reflects its broader commitment to leveraging computing as a tool for local development while creating an environment where innovation and sustainable research can thrive. Through initiatives such as Computing Week, students are exposed to opportunities that encourage them to think critically, build solutions, conduct meaningful research, and contribute to the technological development of their communities. The participation of organisations such as Hankali Academy also highlights the importance of collaboration between academia and industry in equipping students with relevant skills and creating pathways for practical innovation. The 2026 Computing Week concluded with renewed emphasis on the role of the Faculty of Computing in nurturing a generation of technology professionals, researchers, innovators, and problem-solvers capable of contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s digital and economic development.
